SEV (Sondeo Eléctrico Vertical)

At Geolanel SAS we have the experience in carrying out vertical electrical soundings (VES) for groundwater exploration and the precise determination of the water table, essential in advanced geotechnical studies. This geophysical method uses the controlled application of electric current between surface electrodes and the measurement of the electric potential at deeper electrodes to assess the subsoil resistivity. It provides detailed resistivity profiles at different depths, allowing the identification of aquifers, the delimitation of the water table and the mapping of groundwater distribution.

In geotechnical engineering, the precise location of the water table is critical to assess soil stability, especially in slope stability, foundation and excavation projects. The presence of groundwater can significantly affect soil properties such as its bearing capacity and seismic behavior. Therefore, vertical electrical soundings not only facilitate water abstraction planning and water resource management, but are also crucial to mitigate geotechnical risks and ensure the safety and durability of structures built on or near the water table.
